This policy explains what information is processed when you use VirtualFont (virtualfont.com), why, and what choices you have. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible. The typography tools work without an account and without sending what you type to our servers.
Who is responsible
VirtualFont is operated by the owner of virtualfont.com. You can contact us about privacy through the contact page by choosing the Privacy request topic.
Using the tools
The Font Explorer, Font Playground, Font Pairing Generator, Website Typography Preview and Font Comparison run entirely in your browser. Text you type into them is not sent to or stored on our server. Some tools write settings such as the selected font and size into the page address so you can bookmark a setup. Your sample text is only added to the address when you use a share link, and that link stays with you unless you share it. If analytics is enabled, it records page addresses without these settings.
Google Fonts
To show font previews, your browser loads font files directly from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). When this happens, Google receives your IP address and standard browser information, as with any request to a web server. We use this service because the tools would not work without loading the fonts you choose. Google describes its handling of this data in the Google Fonts privacy FAQ and the Google Privacy Policy.
The fonts used for VirtualFont’s own interface are hosted on our server and do not involve Google.
Contact form
When you send a message, we receive your name, email address, the topic you chose and your message by email. We use these details only to reply to you and to handle your request. Messages are not stored in the website’s database; they are kept in our mailbox for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up.
To prevent abuse, the website temporarily records a one-way hashed (non-reversible) form of your IP address together with a counter of recent messages. This record expires automatically after one hour.
Analytics
We may use Google Analytics 4 to understand which tools and guides are useful. If it is enabled, it loads only after you choose Accept in the privacy banner. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and interactions with the tools (for example, that a code snippet was copied). It does not receive the text you type into the tools. See Google’s information about Analytics data.
Advertising
We may show advertising through Google AdSense. If it is enabled, ad scripts load only after you choose Accept. Google and its partners may use cookies to show and measure ads, including personalised ads. You can learn more and manage ad personalisation at How Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google Ad Settings.
Your choices and cookies
If analytics or advertising are enabled, a banner asks for your choice the first time you visit. Your answer is stored in your browser’s local storage under the name vft_consent_v1 so we do not ask again. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy settings link in the footer. If you decline, the tools work exactly the same.
WordPress, the software that runs this site, sets cookies only for logged-in users and for people who leave comments. Ordinary visitors do not receive WordPress cookies.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider records technical information in server logs, such as IP address, requested page, date and time, and browser type. These logs are used for security and troubleshooting and are kept for a limited period.
Affiliate links
Some pages may contain affiliate links, which are marked. If you follow one, the destination site may set its own cookies and is responsible for its own privacy practices.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. To make a request, use the contact form with the Privacy request topic.
Children
VirtualFont is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
We will update this policy when our practices change, for example if we enable a new service, and change the date at the top of the page.
